This study presents a paleographic edition and a brief study of the tradition of an unpublished text the Escada Celestial, of Joao Climaco in medieval Portuguese, currently in the Alcobaca 213 codex of the National Library in Lisbon. The introduction states the importance of the edition of an unpublished medieval Portuguese text and the study of itstransmission, and the contribution that represent several areas of research, as Textual Criticism, Diachronic Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, and History. The first chapter presents arguments in favor of the study of the tradition of the text, biographic data of theauthor and a brief recession of the manuscript tradition and the press of the edited piece, aiming, when possible, the convergences or divergences between testimonies from different branches of tradition. It is also detailed the pieces organization and its content. The secondchapter brings a detailed description of the codex, several paleographic notes, a brief discussion about the adequacy of the judgment of the transcription to the catered public and the editions objectives, the presentation of the norms of transcription adopted by the editionand, finally, the text of the paleographic edition of the piece Escada Celestial, followed by notes and a facsimile copy of the manuscript. With the goal of a contribution to an academic debate about the ecdotic rigidity in the edition work, the conclusion remounts the discussion about the subjectivity of the editorial work and the importance of the adoption, theexplicitation and the use of coherent norms of edition within its purpose. The attachments and appendixes follow this work in order to complement or illustrate the information.
