Resumen
The experience of international cultural exchange is a little explored subject, especially
with regard to the emotions felt by exchange tourists. This article aimed to investigate
the dimensions of emotional experiences related to loyalty to the tourist destination,
replicating Hosany and Gilbert (2010) and Hosany et al (2014) scales in the context of
Brazilian exchange tourists. Thus, a survey using the Emotions on the Destiny Scale, which
includes the dimensions joy, love and positive surprise, and also the scales of Place
Attachment, such as place dependence and place identity. The Factorial Exploratory Analysis
indicated that joy, love and place identity can be grouped into the same construct. The
analysis of the models, which was performed by structural equation modeling with Partial
Least Squares (PLS), indicated that the local dependence can be considered a mediator
between emotions and loyalty and the dimensions explored positively impact the loyalty to
the destination.
