Continuing education aims to improve the quality of care, communication skills and social commitment between the teams, managers, educational institutions and social control. This model of education of the local need, proposing that actions are implemented in order to achieve transformation and thus become the most efficient and effective service. This study aims to identify the strategies used in the literature and the results achieved with the implantation of permanent education in health services. This is an integrative literature review. The population was selected using the metasearch capabilities offered by the Virtual Health Library Of the 65 publications identified, six were included in the sample. All articles were published in the Portuguese language, and Brazil, the country of publication. The experiences of successful continuing education teaching methods used nontraditional regarded as workshops, recreational dynamics, educational games, questioning, case studies, problembased learning, psychodrama. All started from discussions about the problem being worked on and considered the prior experience of the audience. The main results were a greater incentive to reflective debate team, greater involvement of professionals with consequent integration of health practices around a common project, promoting a comprehensive, humane care and quality to users. Health units that used continuous education yielded significant results providing opportunities to improve the care and assistance provided, as well as employee satisfaction thus narrowing relationships with users.
