Resumen
Introduction: cardiovascular disease and cancer are among the top four non-communicable
diseases, responsible for 36 million deaths worldwide. Concerning patients with cancer,
cardiovascular disease are increasingly common, and because of that, became necessary
the development of more advanced therapeutic technologies in order to increase
expectations and improve the quality of life of patients with heart disease and cancer.
Emphasizes the relevance of this study asking whether the sum of specialties contributes to
the prevention of cardiovascular disease triggered by cardiotoxicity of chemotherapy
therapies in cancer patients. This result may support the implementation of
recommendations by professionals in clinical practice for the harm reduction. Objective:
identify the result of interdisciplinary between cardiology and oncology in preventing
cardiotoxicity in cancer patients. Methodology: this is an integrative review whose core
question was: interdisciplinarity between cardiovascular and oncological team prevents heart
disease in patients with cancer triggered by the cardiotoxicity of chemotherapy? The search
for these studies with selected descriptors was held in the following databases: SciELO,
LILACS, MEDLINE, COCHRANE LIBRARY and IBECS. The access to those databases was
through the Virtual Health Library. After evaluation of the selection criteria, were ranked four
review articles for the sample. Results and Conclusions: cardiotoxicity triggered by
chemotherapy is of great relevance in the development of heart disease, and demonstrably,
cardiotoxic effects in cancer patients were present, but few studies have demonstrated this
fact and also just a few of them, showed the existence of the interdisciplinary interaction
between cardio-oncology teams. This fact evidences the necessity for a more effective
interdiciplinary approach between such teams, in order to prevent larger complications and
improve the quality of life of these patients. The cardiovascular and oncology professionals
have a key role in order to bring important results of this interdisciplinary interaction,
beginning with defining and implementing strategies for prevention of heart disease by
cardiotoxicity.
