Resumen
Stroke survivors may have limitations to standing up from a chair. This activity is essential to perform mobility daily activities independently. There are several therapeutic strategies aimed to improve this activity, including task-specific training. The purpose of this systematic review is to investigate the effects of the specific task training of sit-to-stand in improving the performance of the activity, and to describe the components of this training. Search was conducted from January to February of 2020, with no date or language restriction on the databases CENTRAL, Medline, PEDro and Lilacs. We included randomized controlled trials that investigated different interventions that aimed to improve the ability of sit-to-stand in individuals with stroke. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the PEDro Scale. A meta-analysis was performed to investigate the effect of the intervention. Four studies that filled in the eligibility criteria were included in this review. Most studies investigated the addition of task-specific training on conventional exercises, compared to conventional exercises only. In general, exercises were executed in 15 to 60 minutes, two times per day to five days per week, during one to 16 weeks. The immediate effect of sit to stand task-specific training on the performance of this task decreased the sit to stand performance SMD 0,23 (CI 95% -0,28-0.74), compared to no intervention or placebo, however this difference was not statistically significant. Future studies are essential to confirm the results of this review, which are currently based on a small number of studies with small samples.
