Resumen
The WHO (2014) reports that postpartum haemorrhage is the leading cause of
maternal mortality in low-income countries and the primary cause of nearly a quarter
of all maternal deaths globally. Thus, this paper discusses the implantation of a
postpartum haemorrhage protocol in the Normal Birth Center of Maria de Nazaré
Rodrigues. The general objective was to implant a protocol for postpartum
haemorrhages in this Normal Delivery Center, with the following specific objectives: To
discuss with the nursing professionals about the assistance provided to the parturients
/ postpartum women in the postpartum period with hemorrhage; to evaluate the degree
of knowledge of the nursing team about postpartum haemorrhages, to elaborate a plan
of action for implantation of the postpartum haemorrhage protocol. The present
intervention project addresses the implantation of a postpartum haemorrhage protocol
at the Normal Birth Center Maria de Nazaré Rodrigues; in order to better prepare
Nursing professionals during the care given to hemorrhagic patients in the immediate
postpartum period. To evaluate the results, a chart with the percentage of postpartum
haemorrhagic episodes after the protocol implantation was drawn up. The researched
universe consisted of women attended in the postpartum period of the normal delivery
center. An average of 110 women are served in this sector monthly. The sample
consisted of women who presented postpartum haemorrhage. The instrument used to
carry out the project was a protocol developed based on references from the Ministry
of Health that was adapted according to the reality and needs of this Childbirth Center.
The exchange of experiences between the nursing team facilitated this process and
has corroborated in the execution of the implementation of this protocol. Doubts and
difficulties were shared during the workshop and exposure of the protocol, as well as
in meetings in the hopeful search for professional improvement and offer of qualified
care. During the following months, after protocol implantation, it was observed that
there were no severe hemorrhagic episodes and a slight decrease in the overall
number of shocks due to postpartum haemorrhage. The insertion of this protocol came
to add and contribute to the effective attendance of users of the SUS service in the
Normal Birth Center Maria de Nazaré Rodrigues, and to consolidate the role of
obstetric nursing as participants in the management and development of actions aimed
at preventing and reducing complications and maternal mortality from postpartum
haemorrhage.
