Resumen
The effect of solar radiation on the aging of the asphalt can be considered quite relevant due to the high level of insulation in the Brazilian territory. The objective of this study is to simulate and investigate the aging of different modified asphalt binders under the influence of solar radiation. Modified and non-modified asphalt binders by styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), reactive elastomeric terpolymer (RET), hydrated lime and polyphosphoric acid (PPA) were tested for weathering exposure to xenon arc radiation, moisture and temperature. The degradation of the samples was studied by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, rheological tests, X-ray diffraction, mass-spectrometry and thermal analysis. In addition, the effect of aging on the porosity of hot mix asphalt was evaluated by using the Quantikov software. The binders modified by hydrated lime and SBS showed greater resistance to photo-degradation than conventional binder, measured by using the carbonyl index for aging times up to 200 hours of weathering.
