This thesis is about the evaluation item from the perspective of the Linguistics of Specialized Languages, based on three hypotheses: a) the item is a discourse genre; b) the item is a specialized discourse genre and c) each item, in particular, is a specialized text, with its own linguistics structures. To investigate the item as a discourse genre, this paper looked to Bakhtin (2003). As for the item as a specialized discourse genre, the paper turned to Hoffman´s contribution (1988; 1998a; 1998b; 2000). Considering the analyses of the linguistics items´ structures, three lexical categories have been delimited, based on Hoffmann´s studies (op. cit.); Kocourek (1990); Possamai (2004); Tutin (2007) and Kilian and Loguercio (2015), from where the categories are proposed: general language linguistics structures; specialized linguistics structures and linguistics genre structures. Using different approaches, this paper starts from an empiric analyses to select and categorize items according to its several types, going to the corpus electronics analyses (Corpus Linguistics), from a total amount of 4078 items collected from the Learning Evaluation School Programme (PAAE-MG). The AntConc software has been used to observe these lexical categories and to collect linguistics data. The thesis proves that the item is a specialized discourse genre and that each item is a textual unit. Moreover, the paper innovates proposing a linguistic-discursive concept/definition of the item. It also innovates proposing the concept of prototypical genre, different from the prototype genre, developed by Swales (1990), besides proposing the linguistics genre structure, which includes lexicon and its own genre phraseologies of the specialized discourse. Finally, this thesis presents as a product a Virtual Chapter, in which are presented the techniques of elaboration of items for evaluation of school learning
