Mortalidade infantil: análise dos casos ocorridos e investigados no município de Viçosa, MG, 2008 a 2011

Child Mortality Rate (CMR) is one of the indicators more commonly used for analising of health situation of population. This work aimed to analyze child and fetal mortality of residents in the municipality of Viçosa, MG, from January 2008 to July 2011 period. It was used secondary dates on child and fetal deaths and newborn. Those dates were obtained from the Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (SIM) and Sistema de Informação sobre Nascidos Vivos (SINASC) of Epidemiological Surveillance in the Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Viçosa, besides summary investigation done by the Comitê Municipal de Prevenção ao Óbito Materno, Fetal e Infantil (CMPOMFI). The results showed the CMR tended to increase in spite of low. Also, it showed more ocurrence of neonatal deaths indicating problems related to prenatal and labour assistance. It was observed on fetal deaths the incompleteness given to socio-demographic and high percentual of deaths from nondefined causes. From the total deaths, 55,8% were considered evitable by health service. It is important to know the rule of committees doing investigation, evaluation, recommendation measures to institutions and organs, aiming to reduce fetal and child mortality and improving vital statistics.
