Resumen
In recent years, the number of invasive bacterial infections has considerably risen throughout the world. This fact combined with the complex diagnosis and relatively low availability of effective drugs constitutes a great threat to the entire population. Likewise, the development of new and effective therapies for the treatment of bacterial diseases is necessary. However, the production of a new medication is a slow and expensive process, and often the final success and validation of research is never guaranteed. Consequently, drug repositioning can be an interesting alternative. In this way, medications can be administered either as unique agents or as adjuvants in combination with commonly prescribed drugs. Other approaches that are being discussed are in silico techniques, in which the search for new therapies and molecules has computational support, and the use of off-label medications, in which the drug is administered in a different manner than recommended by the manufacturer's instructions. Thus, the objective of this work was to study new approaches making use of drug repositioning as a way to establish new antibacterial therapies.
