Resumen
Mass balances are extremely important procedures for the mineral industry. They consist in the application of the mass conservation principle in a system aiming to quantify the masses in the process, and, also, to determine some parameters such as production rates, concentration, grades, mass recovery, etc. The general results of a study regarding the properties of the mass flows in a complex process may contain a big variety of data with different reliability degrees. Using thesedata, the mass balancing calculations of the process rarely match. To produce a significant response, the results must be adjusted to provide accurate balances at each stage, group of stages and at the global process. Under these conditions, the use of reliable methods for mass estimation through the analyzed flow data is extremely important. This paper presents a computational system developed for data reconciliation and gross error detection, based on a traditional methodology that relies on consistent mass balancing mathematical models, applied to real cases.
