Resumen
The studies of reading and information literacy from the point of view of Information
Science have different adherences and proximities. This observation is based on the principle that in
order to acquire information literacy, the reader develops almost simultaneously and gradually the
two skills that support and sustain his proficiency. The study begins by revisiting some authors who
contributed to both areas, in the national and international scenario. It concludes by highlighting the
intersections found between the two areas, related to themes such as context, motivation and
meaning. Once again in the history of communication and reading it is believed that the new
communication technologies did not modify the theories about these phenomenas, just another new
information source emerged. Reading continues to be the main way to obtain information and,
therefore, the forms of developing the informational competence also have few variations, arising
the necessary ones to the development of specific actions and abilities to search and access the
information in digital means. It presents the directions for the continuity of the research.
