Protocolo clínico para o atendimento às gestantes de Ribeirão das Neves

Abstract

In Ribeirão das Neves, it is perceived that many dentists do not like to take care of pregnant women due to ignorance or why they find an excuse to postpone the treatment, and the pregnant women, perceiving the unreliability of the professional and due to ignorance, prefers to delay the treatment. Differently of myths and taboos that exist on damages that can be caused to the baby if the mother submits to tooth treatment during the pregnancy. It is known that the dental attendance can be carried through in any period of the gestation. The objective of this paper is the creation of a clinical protocol, clearly determining the instruments to organize and to standardize the dental attendance to the pregnant women of Ribeirão das Neves. For elaboration of the clinical protocol a critical evaluation of literature regarding the possibility of the accomplishment of dental treatment in pregnant women was carried through. A literature review was done in SCiELO, BVS, CAPES and ÁGORA virtual libraries. Literature proves that the pregnant women, due to the proper oral alterations of this period, need preventive educative programs and dental care in the prenatal period. As a result a protocol was elaborated to take care of pregnant women, including the best pregnancy period in which they may be treated, which procedures may be done safetly each period, which drugs including anesthetics, may be used and themes to be mentioned during pregnant women meetings.
