Candida species are found in different mucosa of healthy individuals as part of the indigenous microflora, without infectious processes. The oral mucosa is always subject to the development of various diseases, many of which related to the use of dentures, which, in addition to its rehabilitative function, can act as an irritant to the soft tissues of the oral cavity. This study aims was to do a scientific literature review of the occurrence and treatment of oral candidiasis among patients with dentures, emphasizing the role of the dentist as a supervisor on the proper care to prevent and cure this disease. We performed a systematic literature review through literature search of scientific publications obtained through the Bireme databases (Medline, Lilacs - Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences; SciELO-Scientific Electronic Library Online) and PubMed. The removable prosthesis has rehabilitative function, improved aesthetics and also the self-esteem of the patient. Many of the diseases in the oral mucosa are related to the use of dentures, which act as irritant. Oral candidiasis may present clinically in three forms: erythematous candidiasis, pseudomembranous candidiasis and angular cheilitis. The treatment of oral candidiasis include topical and systemic antifungal agents, the main fluconazole and amphotericin B. Facing the literature we can conclude that the candidiasis is among the oral lesions most frequently encountered in daily practice of dentists. The dentist's role is to properly diagnose the various symptoms in diseases resulting from the association of candidiasis to dentures, identifying factors, establishing measures required for prophylaxis and treatment.
