Resumen
The primary attention is characterized by a set of actions, both individually and collectively, which covers the promotion and protection of health, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and maintenance of the health of all individuals, including patients with special needs. Dental care is a standard component of comprehensive health care for children with special needs. Thus, the oral health care directed to these patients should be a routine practice and efficient. Most patients with special needs can and should be met in dental unit of Basic Health Units within primary care. Lack of access to dental care for special patients may be due to several factors, such as lack of knowledge and preparation of professionals for distinguished service, neglect of dental treatment provided by public and private services and the discrediting of the importance of oral health by parents and / or guardians. The prevention protocol for patients with special needs is of paramount importance and basis of any treatment in primary care involving patient education and training of parents or guardians, the inclusion of oral health care in activities of daily living and care journal of the professional.
