Abstract: Critics have pointed out, as a singular feature of Olga Orozco's style, the
use of metaphor and symbol. However, its characteristic diction is also determined by
other figures, such as amplification, parallelism, antithesis, and oxymoron. There are no
systematic studies to date of these resources. This study proposes an examination of the
uses of oxymoron in the author's literary universe. The corpus of analysis is made up of
the whole of his lyrical work and his short stories, given the close relationship between
the two. The examination will focus on the modes of manifestation of the figure: its local
and global configurations, its grammatical and semantic structures, its functions and its
relationship with certain nuclei of the author's worldview. Besides, its interrelation with
other recurrent figures of thought and diction will be examined. This examination will
allow us to trace the possible aesthetic and conceptual affiliations that justify the use of
the figure.
