Resumen: La relación SaO2FiO2 tomada por pulso-oximetria ha sido comparada con la relación PaO2/FiO2, y validada en varios estudios como predictor temprano de desarrollo de SDRA, así como establecido parámetros de dicha relación que la permitan utilizar en el cálculo de la escala SOFA en su componente respiratorio, y como parámetro ventilatorio en el proceso de liberación de ventilación mecánica, por esta razón surge la idea de estudiarlo como predictor de requerimiento de ventilación mecánica en pacientes con diagnóstico de neumonía adquirida en la comunidad.
