Worldwide, the traffic accidents are one of the main causes of mortality, morbidity and disability. In 2016, nearly 1,35 million people died around the world, being the first cause of death in people between 5 and 29 years old. This problem is growing up in Colombia, where there is a spike in the rate of mortality. This research sought to establish the socio-demographic characteristics of patients, and the direct cost of care for the health system in the San Antonio Hospital in Mitú between 2012 and 2015.
Because of this, a descriptive and transversal sociodemographic characterization is carried out with a partial economic evaluation of the cost description. Describing some of the sociodemographic and care variables and his relation with the independent variable of cost.
The more prevalent characteristics are: sex: men (69,69%), age: between 20 and 24 years old (42,23%), marital status: single (74,71%), ethnicity: not applicable (63,28%), residence zone: urban (83,68%) and health system: subsidized (45,73%). In terms of cost, the average care per patient was $ 297.085 (+/- $61.189 CI 95%) with constant prices in 2015, the average value per outpatient was $ 117,663, and hospitalized $ 994,333.
In conclusion, even when the price comparation is low, they are unacceptable, as the accidents where preventable, therefore, come up with a propose for vial education, directed to educate the population divided in different age groups and this way, guarantee the integral development of road users.
