SMEs account for 80% of employment in Colombia, many of them were born from entrepreneurs who initially only sought to realize their idea, but over time they became a great source of employment and useful resources, and unemployment rates were reduced, sectors diversified and the country's economy improved. However, these present challenges such as a shortage of economic resources or education, which is why governments noted the importance of supporting these endeavors and developed strategies for their development and growth through different programs. The following research was addressed from a qualitative descriptive methodology and proposes to study how SMEs are the great responsible for generating more jobs in the country, and how support programs show positive results for businesses and the improvement of the country. First, it was considered to describe a little entrepreneurship in the past, followed by its understanding from different approaches, then the demonstration of successful business ideas that were born of entrepreneurship, as well as some statistics on job-generating companies and ending by detailing how through the promotion of programs that support the different governments that offer seed capital and tools, such as training, incentives and/or benefits is achieved to enhance the generation of employment, in addition to show positive change in economies.
