The Caño Vanguardia is a water body of great importance for the area, since it supplies water to the community of the upper part of the Vanguardia sidewalk, Cemetery Jardines del Llano and Bioparque los Ocarros, has also become the epicenter of a series of floods affecting nearby farms and largely the Bioparque the Ocarros; causing closures of some sectors, thus impacting its economic activity according to statements supplied directly by the director of the Education Unit of the Bioparque the Ocarros Enid Chacón.
For this reason the project carried out a hydrological modelling of the middle basin of the Caño Vanguardia using the software HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS, for this were located 6 points along the basin where hydrological data were taken over 5 months, from February to June, consecutive survey of bathymetric information was carried out which was used to design the geometry of the channel together with topographic information and level curves obtained from corresponding entities such as IGAC (Agustín Codazzi Geographical Institute); through the ARCGIS program was carried out an analysis of variables such as temperature, time of infiltration and precipitation, this last variable can be clarified that it was obtained through the IDEAM (Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology), Environmental Studies and the airport station.
Through the IGAC (Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi) aerial photos were obtained which were used to analyze the change of the zone and the alterations that have occurred over the time, then they were used the flow data, the morphology of the basin and the precipitation to generate the modelling in both HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS, subsequently generated a TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) and a flood map for the sector. As a result it was observed that the precipitation is 164,29 mm and this causes more water to be generated entering the water body but few losses with values of 129,82 mm as seen in the results generated by the HEC-HMS on the other hand, the flood area was determined by using the HEC-RAS and was able to determine that the area is prone to floods which affect farms adjacent to the sector and to the Bioparque the Ocarros.
The project ended up generating recommendations for the management and control of risks in the area and especially the Bioparque the Ocarros, the models were taken into account, as well as the additional variables that were studied to see the behavior of the basin; the internship ended with a socialization of the results obtained to the managers and staff of the Ocarros.
