Resumen
Recently, two Niti instruments with heat treatment and reciprocal motion were introduced on the market: Reciproc Blue (REB) (RPC Blue; VDW, Munich, Germany) and WaveOne Gold (WOG) (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK, U.S. USA). Manufacture and root canal instrumentation cause surface defects in Niti instruments that can be observed through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The aim of this research is to determine through a literature review, the surface changes associated with torsional and cyclic loads in the Waveone Gold and Reciproc Blue system files, after preparation of artificial canals observed under scanning electron microscopy. Materials and Methods: A literature review was performed, using controlled vocabulary (MESH terms) and natural words related to terms of the problem question on this databases: Pubmed, LILACS, Cochrane, Scopus and Web of Science and the Google Scholar search engine. The search result showed a total of 2249 articles, at the end only 9 articles were fully reviewed. Results: Only 2 of the 9 articles included in this review analyzed the external surface of the instrument. Longitudinal microcracks along the axis and distortion in the machined grooves were founded in both files, when they were subjected to torsional loads. 3 articles evaluated the WOG and REB systems, 4 the WOG system and 2 the REB system. The most recent studies were published in 2019 (n=2), the largest number of articles (n=3) are published in the International Endodontic Journal, classified in Quartil 1 (n=7) and Brazil as affiliation country (n=4). Conclusion: all the 9 included articles, evaluated the fracture pattern through SEM. Only 2 studies observed the external surface of the instrument, finding longitudinal microcracks along the file axis and distortion in the machined grooves in the WOG and REB files under torsional loads. There is no concensus about definition of superficial changes, which limits their analysis. Most of the recently published studies are from Brazil and South Korea, and were published in the International Endodontic Journal (Q1).
