Resumen
The Periurban territory is a dynamic space between urban and rural areas, understood as an interface that, from different social, economic and environmental scenarios, suffers from the consequences of an urban and normative lack of definition in land use plans, which facilitates the proliferation of activities that environmentally and visually degrade the landscape that entail at the same time negative consequences on the quality of life of the inhabitants of the city.
In spite of the constant and vertiginous urban development that the main cities of the country have experienced in the last decades, the importance of the Periurban territories and the multiple benefits that its correct planning, regulation and management contributes are still unknown. In the municipalities of Bucaramanga and Girón, for example, the only existing measures to protect the territories bordering the city are the Integrated Management Districts (DMI), which are insufficient given their sectoral orientation towards protection and ecological preservation.
The central purpose of this research focuses on the generation of recommendations that serve as tools for sustainable territorial ordering in a rural-urban edge, in this case, the western margin of Bucaramanga. In methodological terms, this research present a deductive approach of a qualitative and documentary nature, complemented by case studies. It starts then from a conceptual and normative foundation that supports the territorial diagnosis according to study variables such as basic infrastructure, physical, social and economic environment, which allow to recognize and interpret the current conditions of the margin under study.
Likewise, two case studies are considered, one in Europe and the other in Latin America, which will provide methodological aspects for the configuration of sustainable spaces in the peri-urban territory, in such a way that it is possible to combine useful elements for a new positive conception in the normative political environment of this territory. In short, a search for alternatives that can serve as a basis for reversing the current degradation dynamics and consolidating this peri-urban scenario as an active environment within a new economic, social and environmental sphere.
