Resumen
The Faculty of Graphic Design of the Santo Tomás University annually holds the Design Research Meeting, which from October 2 to 4, 2019 held its seventh version, an event that has been consolidated in our Faculty during these seven years.
At that time, we reflected on the social function of design, on the work of our discipline in life and daily problems, a reflection from the academic dialogue on the epistemological, methodological and practical relationship with the social sciences, the arts and the humanities, before Covid-19. At that time, our interest was to strengthen the discussion based on experiences in research and social intervention processes in which design participates.
One year later the world, everyday problems and everyone's life has changed drastically, which has required a great effort on our part to adapt to this new life in isolation. The forms of communication, education, human interaction and life in common require new contributions on our part every day.
These memories are the result of this reflection on a normality of which we were not aware and to which we may not return. Today, a year later, they allow us to review and complement the discussion in which we participated at that time.
In this seventh meeting, the axis of the discussion was the place that design occupies in the processes of transformation and social innovation, defined by Manzini (2016), as “everything that design can do to promote and support social innovation, to make its results widely accessible and its meaning richer and deeper ”. Within this definition, identify at least three basic ways of designing for innovation:
Design activism
Design with communities
Design for favorable eco-systems
