Resumen
The Production Regional Forest Reserve of the North of Bogotá DC "Thomas Van der Hammen" (RTVdH) located on the northern edge of the capital of Colombia, is part of the Main Ecological Structure of Bogotá and the Sabana, offering environmental benefits such as ecological wealth and landscaping, which promote regional ecological dynamics to promote the conservation and protection of natural resources, allowing ecological connectivity between the Eastern Hills, the wetlands, the remnants of native forest, the Cerro de La Conejera and the Bogotá river, making it a potential area to consolidate the largest urban forest in Latin America (Hurtado, J., Pulido, D., & Lizarazo, I., 2020), being also strategic in the mitigation of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and adaptation to climate change.
For this reason, the present work was carried out to calculate through the application of the Ex-Act tool the amount of carbon dioxide that the RTVdH would be able to capture, more specifically in the sector called “Hacienda la Conejera” and thus make visible the importance of the RTVdH in mitigating climate change if the ecological restoration project that is being carried out in the area is completed.
Therefore, the methodology was carried out based on information provided by the RTVdH's environmental management plan (EMP), data provided by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and the IPPC (Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change), as well as databases and geographic information systems to complete the modules required by the tool within its structure; resulting in the carbon total balance with a value of -772,307 tCO2 eq corresponding to the greenhouse gas, object of work, carbon dioxide.
