Resumen
The following research aims to identify changes in the sense of life in young athletes who voluntarily retired from their sports career without having had the professional level. For this, a theoretical approach was made from the existentialist and constructivist humanist perspective, and the meaning of life and life cycle were taken as disciplinary categories. In relation to the above, a mixed methodology with a predominance of the qualitative component from a phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective was proposed, while the quantitative part is supported by a descriptive cross-sectional design. On the other hand, the sample was made up of four participants who were between 20 and 22 years old, who had trained and competed in a sport during the last 10 years or more. Data is collected through the Meaning of Life Test (PIL) and also through a semi-structured interview. The qualitative results are composed of four categories that are sense of life, sports career, life cycle and coping, while the quantitative data were made by the PIL qualification as proposed by Ortiz, Trujillo y Trujillo (2012) and Noblejas (1994). The above could argue about how the sense of life in the participants is a process of constant change after sports retirement, which is observed in the decisions they have made that are aimed at starting university studies, working, and meaning differently the sport.
