Resumen
The present study evaluated the assimilation capacity of a domestic discharge in the Menzulí creek, determined from the application of a BOD and OD model (Streeter and Phelps), and the quality of water was evaluated by means of the quality indexes established by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies of Colombia (IDEAM).
As a result of the study in terms of ICA, it was determined that the section corresponding to the shedding of interest in the Menzulí creek presents acceptable water quality, a constant behavior for the years 2015 and 2017.
The hydrodynamic processes and the purification capacity of the river were evaluated, the deoxygenation rate for the study section was 6.67 d-1 and the re-aeration rate was 42.42 d-1. According to the behavior of OD and BOD, the shed begins its recovery to 0.89 km, but its complete assimilation is given to 17 km, due to the contamination present in the water, the depth of the study area and the short distance to the assimilation of it.
The study illustrates the modeling of organic matter and dissolved oxygen, key parameters in the identification of water quality, using an Excel spreadsheet as a tool and validating the results with the agreement of the field data with what was thrown by the model, in addition to the K1 and K2 rates determined for the study section.
