Resumen
In the study area (which is made up of Carrera 22, between Calle 4 and Calle 1, and the facilities of the Santo Tomás University – Campus Aguas Claras in Villavicencio), pedestrian mobility is widely affected by constructive and behavioral aspects that condition autonomous and fluid circulation. The analysis of these aspects as risk factors is the main purpose of the current research, whose contribution benefits future interventions in the pedestrian structure and on the road in the sector.
The methodology developed was divided into four stages. During the first stage, documentation and research reports were consulted at the international, national and local levels. According to this, the guides, primers and compendiums that accompanied the analysis process were selected.
In the second stage, information was collected in the field by conducting a survey of the university community, visual inspection of the pedestrian path and inventory of urban furniture.
Once the collection, accompanied by photographic evidence, was completed, the third stage began, based on data processing and analysis. At this point, the information obtained in the field was first compared with current regulations regarding the design and construction of pedestrian spaces. Second, the condition of the sidewalk was evaluated based on deterioration and obstructions. Third, it was shown what kind of elements offer safe access to pedestrian paths. And fourth, through the analysis of the survey, the pedestrian was characterized by his mobility at the same time as his perception of quality, service, safety and risk was known.
Finally, after having made a series of recommendations in order to mitigate the main problems encountered, in general, it was concluded that the sidewalks inside and outside the educational establishment lack uniformity, which shows that the width and height dimensions mostly do not coincide with the minimum construction parameters taken as a reference from the manuals consulted. About access and guidance devices for people with reduced mobility shows scarce and poor implementation, exceeding the maximum slope for ramps without breaks and omission of handrails according to the height to be saved, incomplete installation of essential elements for the configuration of tactile signaling, etc. In addition, during the investigation the following aspects had a great impact on pedestrian mobility: flooding and lack of maintenance on sidewalks, poor lighting, and worn, poorly located and insufficient vertical and horizontal signage, among others.
