Resumen
Currently in the municipality of Funza Cundinamarca has a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). however, it presents some problems that do not allow its optimal functioning, which is reflected in higher pollutant loads discharged to the Gualí wetland, which is the receiving water body of the WWTP effluent and thus achieves the health of the ecosystem there. in the present project, a proposal was made to improve the WWTP processes, based on the diagnosis of the WWTP through the collection of information (design and operation) and the physicochemical characterization of the water in the different stages of the treatment train. in order to identify critical control points. in addition, not only were the solutions at the end of the tube studied, that is, improvements to existing or new treatment structures, but processes prior to the treatment system were evaluated, such as the sewage network and the quality of the discharges delivered to it. Network by the industrial sector. from the diagnosis, it was possible to identify the lack of some treatment units, the non-compliance with the technical specifications of some existing units, the existence of wrong connections between the rainwater network and the sanitary network, the non-compliance with the national norm of discharges due to part of some industries in the area of influence, the lack of articulation between the discharge norm and the design parameters of the WWTP, and operational failures that negatively impact the treatment process. As improvement measures, the redesign of the pumping tank was carried out together with the coarse screening system, as well as the design and dimensioning of a grit removal and degreasing unit. finally, a plan of good operating practices was formulated that leads to the improvement in the operation of the treatment units and thus to compliance with current regulations. in addition, it was concluded that external factors that negatively impact the treatment process of the WWTP, such as the wrong connections, combined network stretches and the non-compliance of some industries, must be addressed together with the structural improvement measures to give a definitive solution and dismantle the belief that the impact of the Gualí wetland is solely due to malfunction of the WWTP.
