Resumen
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Kerasoft toric soft contact lenses in the correction of astigmatism greater than 3.00 D, in the municipalities of San Gil and Cucuta through January to August 2016. A descriptive prospective study of a series of cases was designed for this research. Study population were people residing in the Municipalities of San Gil and Cucuta who attended to eye exam at the IPS Ophthalmological Center of San Gil and Scientific Optics of Cucuta. 12 eyes were assessed. The sampling method employed was non-aleatory selecting people who met the selection criteria and who agreed to participate by signing the respective informed consent. Contact lenses were fitted and 2 controls were performed (at 9 days and at one month). Variables were age, gender, visual acuity, refractive error (type of astigmatism), tear film quality, lens stability and comfort (by means of survey at control appointments). Results: Male gender participation was 4 out of 6 the participants, age range was 18 to 30 years, 10 of the 12 eyes with refraction and all the lenses showed good visual acuity. Of the 12 eyes with astigmatisms 10 were with the rule, lens rotation was stable throughout the study. Conclusions: Contact lenses provided good visual acuity and clinical stability. As reported by participants, the Kerasoft lenses provided good stability, visual acuity and comfort.
