Resumen
Introduction: The cleft lip and palate is a congenital malformation caused by the non-fusion of the maxillary processes, these patients have a higher prevalence of caries, periodontal disease and a higher plaque index, few studies have demonstrated the importance of oral hygiene management in these patients. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of clinical and educational interventions on oral hygiene in patients with cleft lip and palate according to the evidence published in the last twenty years. Materials and methods: A systematic review was carried out; information was collected from articles published in different databases. Clinical trials and systematic reviews that were related to oral hygiene interventions in these patients were included. The methodological quality of the articles was evaluated using the GRADE guide, the Cochrane list for the quality of clinical trials and documentaries, they were evaluated with the PRISMA list. Results: In the present study, 1673 documents were identified, of these four articles they met the inclusion criteria. Regarding the methodological quality, it was found that the 3 clinical trials and the systematic review included are of high methodological quality and a low level of bias. Conclusions: From the articles, it could be evidenced that the effectiveness of the interventions regarding oral hygiene management has positive effects, but it is concluded that the information on the subject is not sufficient due to the few research antecedents found.
