Resumen
Prison recidivism is defined as the re-entry into prisons of people who had previously been in prison for the same or for different crimes. The present research sought to analyze the relationship between prison recidivism, impulsiveness, perseverance in response, and sensitivity to punishment and reward, in a sample of 78 recidivist men deprived of liberty in two prisons in Colombia. The Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11), the Monetary Choice Questionnaire (MCQ), the Punishment and Reward Sensitivity Questionnaire, and a modification of the card game task were used to measure persistence in response. Impulsivity test scores were found to be unrelated, and repeat offenders have a greater preference for small, short-term rewards, based on MCQ measures. In the card game task it was possible to find that in some phases the participants had higher levels of perseverance depending on the percentage of loss and gain in each one. The results of this research are discussed in terms of their possible usefulness for the generation of prison treatment programs that are more focused on the psychological and criminogenic characteristics related to recidivism.
