Resumen
The Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the United States, signed in 2006, was settle with the purpose of creating an opportunity to improve the positioning of the country's products and sectors in the North American market and promote numerous export and import projects, but apparently not all sectors of the Colombian economy have so far benefited as expected from the trade agreement. One of them was the rice sector that has had to face the imbalances in the productive schemes of both countries. The main problems that have affected this sector is the lack of transfer of knowledge and technology to productive units to increase productivity, and the lack of government support programs to boost the competitiveness of the sector and overcome the disadvantage of having to compete with the low entry prices of US rice to the country. Therefore, this work focuses on analyzing the situation of the rice sector of both countries after the signing of the treaty to establish the points of divergence that generate the greatest impact on the Colombian rice sector.
