Resumen
Health institutions, blood transfusion service centers and blood banks are in charge of guaranteeing universal access to blood, in a safe way through the harmonization of quality programs and strategies, through compliance and evaluation of systems, performances, practices and recognitions in blood banks and blood transfusion services. In this review, technical, administrative and quality aspects were evaluated in these institutions, identifying quality management systems under the ISO 9001, ISO 15189, AABB standards and the Accreditation in Transfusion, Cell and Tissue Therapy (CAT). This information provided a positive critique on the quality systems within organizations in the development of transfusion medicine. Being able to determine that their application evaluates the efficiency of the processes, obtaining information on performance as an essential instrument in decision-making within the organization and patient safety. The recognition of quality management models has managed to guarantee greater confidence in the delivery of a product in accordance with the regulations, backed by accreditation and certification bodies, nationally and internationally.
