Introduction: The World Health Organization classifies noise as one of the most important health problems, since around 30 million people are being prone to be affected by noise levels harmful to hearing in the workplace , producing hearing loss or hearing loss due to long-term exposure to noise.
Objective: To determine the loss of hearing ability of students in the clinical practice of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Santo Tomás University, Bucaramanga section.
Materials and methods: An analytical cross-sectional observational study was conducted in 63 participants. The population of this study was composed of students from sixth (VI) to tenth semester (X) of the second academic period of 2019 of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Santo Tomás University, the data was processed in the STATA program, using trend measures central and dispersion, standard deviation and confidence intervals, frequencies, chi2, T test, measurement differences, ANOVA.
Results: In response to the objective of the research, which was to determine the loss of hearing ability of the students of the clinical practice of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Santo Tomás University, Bucaramanga section, the result of audiometry for the right ear was evidenced that 68 (76.19%) people have mild hearing loss and 1 (1.59%) student has moderate hearing loss and for the left ear 45 (71.43) participants had mild hearing loss and 3 (4.76) students had a moderate hearing loss.
Conclusions: The students who are studying the dental clinics of the Santo Tomás University showed auditory alterations according to the audiometry test that was carried out on each of the participants in this research.
