Resumen
Automation according to Groover is "a system where production tasks, usually performed by human operators, are transferred to a set of technological elements" (Groover 2007, p.888). An automated system consists of two main components; the first is the operative part, which allows the machine to move and carry out the desired operation and the second component is the command component, where it is usually a programmable automaton capable of communicating with all the components of the automated system.
Companies today invest money for the implementation of these systems, thanks to this productivity improves, costs are reduced, security is increased, there is better quality in products, among other characteristics that make the company improve competitiveness , (Rust, R., & Huang, M, 2012, p. 47-66). This is why automation systems have had such a high impact. At Santo Tomás University, educational methods oriented to this field of development are implemented, with the aim of guaranteeing a better job performance of the graduate by having basic knowledge of automation.
Colombia is the “country in Latin America where the concept of automation has been implemented the most” (Socconini, 2019). Large universities are investing in new methodologies in order to improve their academic programs and for future engineers to present skills and knowledge in the control area, which helps the level of learning in Colombia to be updated and present competencies at the level. technological and industrial.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the USTA works to train integral professionals "with leadership capacity and business contribution who develop transformative and productive technologies thanks to the understanding of their environment and to act ethically for the benefit of Colombian society" (Universidad Santo Tomás [USTA ], 2017). Therefore, it is sought that they are increasingly prepared in the industrial field, automation being one of the lines of research of the faculty.
In the academic field, it is important to carry out didactic guides, since in this way the students will be able to have a meaningful and applicable way of acquiring the knowledge of the different fields that are shown in the control and instrumentation subject in the mechanical engineering faculty.
Therefore, the development of didactic guides becomes an essential element for the learning of mechanical engineering students because, through these guides, students can solve engineering problems, study autonomously, and at the same time, it serves to that the teacher interacts in a better way with the student in order to make the teaching-learning process more effective.
The tomasino student has academic spaces working in a practical way in the ETM (Electronics Laboratories), where the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has an industrial process line with conveyor belts that currently lacks experimental guides to facilitate student learning. It is important to develop these didactic aids for the automation line, since through these elements the students will implement their basic knowledge of Delta PLC programming.
This is how it is intended to strengthen the teaching methodology of the academic space of control and instrumentation of the University to train in the future mechanical engineers who have the ability to face the world of work satisfying the needs of humanity.
