The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the importance of School Religious Education in the comprehensive education of Tenth grade students at the San Francisco de Asis of Berastegui Educational Institution in the municipality of Cienaga of Oro in the department of Cordoba (Colombia). For this, a methodology directed from qualitative research was applied under a descriptive-propositional type and method and with a hermeneutic-interpretive approach. Documentary Review and Semi-Structured Interview were used as data collection techniques to achieve each of the specific objectives. For the selection of the sample, a non-probabilistic sampling was applied, with an intentional sample, for which 8 students from the Tenth grade and two teachers from the Basic Secondary School associated with the area were chosen. It is concluded that in the Educational Institution, the ERE is oriented under an interactive methodology that affects the appropriation and the integral formation of the students, promoting their sense of life and capturing academic interest. In the same way, within the educational context, a response is provided to the purposes that the area develops and strengthens the investigative orientation, allowing reflection on the bases of the ERE and its teachings in the classroom.
