The increase of population centers, the massive consumption of resources, and the increase of recreation areas, bring with them a series of environmental problems, being one of these the waste management produced. Due to inefficient treatment, it becomes a growing problem, compromising human well-being, the environment and nature.
The Caney Alto village of Restrepo municipality in the department of Meta is an area with great influence of the tourist order, that has been increasing in the last years, as a result of the population growth and its proximity to important cities like Villavicencio and Bogota; this has allowed the emergence of new farms dedicated to tourism activities and, in turn, a series of environmental and health problems, this, due to the high rate of solid waste generation, which added to the lack of management and management inadequate of the same by the establishments, generate a series of vectors and environmental impacts that bring an affectation to the resident population, the visitors and the environment.
In the present work, a comprehensive solid waste management program was formulated in the tourist corridor of Caney Alto, which involves the collection, storage, separation at source, harvesting, transportation and final disposal stages. of an initial diagnosis that determines the tourist establishments and the current conditions in the management of residues of the path and by means of a solid waste characterization methodology, determined the per capita production of residues, the identification of the temporary storage centers and through the monitoring of the current solid waste collection route in order to establish a correct management of the solid waste by means of management strategies according to the results obtained.
As a result of the development of SWMP, strategies are formulated in accordance with the problems identified, and the creation of six solid waste management programs: an educational and awareness-raising program, separation at source, collection and transportation, organic material and some of inorganic waste, and a monitoring and control, in addition to the preparation of a schedule and financial plan.
