Resumen
According to Cookley (2002) quoted by UNAD (lesson 13): “the sociology of sport is a sub-discipline that emphasizes the relationship between sport and society, its scope includes individual and group action in its social relationship with sport, it deals with how society changes sport and how sport can bring about changes in society ”. The sociology of sport gained strength between the 1960s and the 1980s, due to the links of the media, especially television. Coakley (2002) points out that the origin of a sociology of sport is unlikely to be due solely to the fact that sport is part of society. According to his criteria, what provokes an interest in knowledge within sport is: The marked interest that sport organizers showed in the face of the range of problems that this generated. The increasing popularity that the sport was achieving every time, especially through entertainment. The political and economic interest that was beginning to awaken through sport. Among the topics addressed by sociology are social imageries, since these impact on political, social, aesthetic, technological aspects, on science and knowledge, but also on culture. The central point of this work has to do with the symbolic, transcending different aspects such as: the economic, consumption, politics, culture, perceptions, institutions.
