Resumen
This research paper seeks to find a relationship between corruption and the low economic growth of countries. The study was based on a sample of 91 countries with data ranging from 1993 to 2017, choosing countries that had the complete database for the chosen period of time and the full investigation variables such as the Bayesian corruption index, GDP, the Human capital index, population growth, investment (GFCF) and lagging GDP for a period (endogeneity), based on Romer's endogenous economic growth model (1990) and adding control variables such as trade volume as a proportion of GDP, balance of payments balance capital account, the real exchange rate and four temporary dummies variables. The database was taken from the University of Gothenburg, World Bank, IMF and the University of Pennsylvania (Penn World Table). The annual data was reduced to five years to minimize the volatility of the data and to be able to use an econometric model of Dynamic Panel Data using the XTABOND2 module of Stata 13 ver. By running the model chosen after passing the validity tests, a strong relationship between corruption and economic growth was evidenced with the expected (negative) sign, responding to an inverse relationship between both variables to greater corruption, lower economic growth and vice versa. It should be noted that not enough statistical evidence was found among the human capital index and population growth to economic growth.
