Resumen
The purpose of this research was to describe the behavior of wood to resist fire and related procedures for its efficient protection against flammability, based on the elaboration of a state of the art on the main trends in the subject worldwide. The qualitative approach methodology, descriptive and cross-sectional, allowed the collection of different publications available in database books and specialized journals published from 2010 to 2019. To obtain the information, a series of three related categories was established. with the behavior and resistance of wood to fire, and procedures for efficient protection against flammability. 55 articles were selected, of which 34.55% correspond to sources associated with the behavior of wood to fire, 18.18% deal with the resistance of wood to fire, 38.18% are linked to the procedures of effective protection of wood against fire, and finally, 9.09% of the documents have to do with the behavior of woods developed to resist fire. The results indicate that there is a limited current research production on the subject at the Latin American level, as the references come mainly from studies in Europe and the United States. It was possible to determine that there are outstanding trends in relation to the resistance of wood to fire, as well as important advances in the understanding of the behavior of wood before flammability. It is concluded that the advances in nanotechnology offer the future alternative improvement to create fire-resistant wood, and a panorama of modified wood for its more efficient structural fire use is elucidated.
