Resumen
Objective: to analyze the relationship of knowledge and practices of oral self-care with the socio-demographic aspects of the hemophilic population linked to the FAHES in the period of 2018.
Materials and methods: a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted in the hemophiliac patients attending the FAHES foundation. A sample of 80 subjects was included, to which an instrument consisting of 33 questions was applied. The descriptive results were presented as frequencies and percentages in the quantitative variables as mean and standard deviation. To establish associations between the sociodemographic variables and the test questions, the chi2 test or Fisher's exact test or the Student's t-test or the Mann-Whitney U test were applied, as appropriate.
Results: the participants were between 10 and 49 years old, (45.00%) were men and (55.00%) were women. Most with type A hemophilia, with one (38.75%) the results showed that patients have a good knowledge regarding oral hygiene. The bivariate analysis showed an association with the socioeconomic stratum and the type of hemophilia.
Conclusion: a statistically significant association was found between sociodemographic aspects and measures of knowledge and self-care in oral hygiene adopted by patients with Hemophilia of FAHES.
