Resumen
Offensive smells are defined as one of the manifestations of air pollution that generates more discussion, due to the susceptibility of the population to the perception of aromas resulting from certain production processes or anthropic activities, becoming a problem of difficult management, specifically in areas or territories where environmental and topographic variables converge, and which additionally maintain economic and tourist importance for the region. This is the case of the Sector Mesa de Los Santos, a region that has been presenting a significant increase in the occupation of the territory, generating changes in land use, the result of productive projects such as the poultry sector and tourism projects of subdivisions that clearly shows this problematic.
For this study, the current regulations were reviewed as established in Resolution 1541 of 2013, and NTC 012-1 "Effects and evaluation of odors". Likewise, a recognition of the meteorological, topographic and environmental characteristics that directly influence the composition and movement of the air current that is transported in the sector will be required. Regarding the productive activity of the area, it is necessary to establish the economic activities that could generate alteration in air quality, specifically in the perception of offensive odors
The project linked the variables and the regulations with the direct impact to the environmental sustainability of the Sector Mesa de Los Santos sector, through descriptive research. The project was developed by correlating the information on meteorological, topographic and economic conditions variables of the study sector to interpret the behavior of offensive odor generating gases and their importance in handling to reduce the impact produced. The document proposes goals and indicators that, related to the waste generated by the poultry company, as the main generator of odorous compounds, allow establishing the specific monitoring variables that the municipality of Los Santos should adopt to direct some of its policies towards reducing offensive odors. perceived in some areas of it.
