Resumen
The document presents the results of analysis performed to three samples of remaining granular
material (RGM) treated with limescale, extracted from roads in rehabilitation in different localities
of Bogota City.
The project of investigation developed in three stages, the first stage consisted in the collect of
remaining granular material (RGM) existed in roads of service in Bogota City, in this phase was
proposed an analysis of feasibility which allowed to determine the conditions of the project
(objective, scope and methodology)
The second stage has been made through laboratory tests that allowed established the
characterization of material via through of soil particle size determination test (granulometry),
plasticity index through the Atterberg limit test, optimal limescale content by Eades & Grim test
and compressive strength in different samples of granular material with variation in limescale
content between 1% and 6%. The variation on the limescale content added to treated granules
has been made with the goal of determining the material strength with different amounts of
limescale. From the previous, the tests allowed establish that the optimum content of limescale
to make a satisfactory result that meets the quality parameters required for the Urban
Development Institute (IDU), is equal to 4%, and with this percentage the remaining granular
reduces plasticity in the final portion of soil and increase the resistance properties.
Finally, it has been developed the third stage of the project, in this has evaluated the obtained
results, and it has been established that the remaining granular material (RGM) can be used as
recycled aggregate (RA) from construction and demolition waste (CDW) in vehicular roads,
pedestrian paths and cycle paths in accordance with the provisions of the IDU 500-18 technical
specifications; 511-18 and 513-18 version 4 of the 2019.
