Resumen
Based on the experiences acquired in the Laboratory for Peace (Suba, Bogotá), this document highlights the importance of popular education as an instrument that generates spaces of territorial peace in the 11th locality of the Capital District of Bogotá. Through non-formal educational proposals supported by art and culture, the inhabitants of different neighborhoods of this town not only join forces and work for their community, but also manage to understand their rights and their duties as citizens, which leads them to be participants in the exercise of democracy, break down the barriers of "ignorance" and "inferiority", and empower themselves with both their individual rights and their rights as a collective.
It is also a priority of this work to relate how popular education opens the way to practice and citizen participation, and favors the effective exercise of democracy, which constitutes a solid basis for the configuration of the long-awaited right to peace.
