Chemical reagents are substances that are classified according to the type and degree of
danger based on their physical-chemical properties. These substances have become fundamental
components of the intermediate or final products used in daily life, contributing in different ways
to establish a high level of social development. Such is the case of university education, which
allows learning through the use of reagents in laboratory practices. This practical development
must be carried out under preventive measures to identify and classify the used chemical
substances and chemical residues generated, in order to avoid negative impacts on the
environment, human health and high costs for the acquisition of reagents and disposal of hazardous
waste. Currently, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering of the Santo Tomás University -
Villavicencio headquarters, presents some needs regarding the management of chemical reagents
and chemical residues, as a result of the experimental procedures carried out in its laboratories.
The development of this project contributes in the first stage and objective of the macro-project
"Study for the Management of Waste Generated in the Laboratories of the Faculty of
Environmental Engineering of the Santo Tomás University, Villavicencio headquarters", through
a diagnosis of the management of the reagents used in laboratory practices, divided into three
phases; The first includes obtaining primary and secondary information. The second is the analysis
of information and consolidation of the reagent inventory. The last phase includes the analysis of
the dangerousness of the reagents using the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). According to
the results, it was determined that the guide of Inorganic Chemistry: Physical and chemical
properties of matter, has the greatest danger, since 2.4 g of Lead Nitrate is used for its development,
which is evaluated as the reagent more dangerous, as some of its dangers are carcinogenicity (1B)
and reproductive toxicity (1A).
