Resumen
This work analyzes the social representations of the poverty of ten young people from an educational institution in Bogotá. Social representation is understood as an organization of images and language that cuts out and symbolizes acts and situations that are or become common. Faced passively, it is captured as the reflection in consciousness. Through representations, people synthesize explanations that denote reality, in such a way that a type of knowledge is produced that allows them to understand how people think and therefore how they organize themselves. Social representations, in short, constitute cognitive systems in which it is possible to recognize the presence of stereotypes, opinions, beliefs, values and norms that usually have a positive or negative attitude orientation. Starting from the idea that the cultural environment and people's life experiences influence the way they perceive social reality, it is that social representations allow us to understand how the concepts of poverty and wealth are constructed, made visible and idealized. young people according to their socioeconomic characteristics. In this case, the complex associations made between certain types of behavioral patterns and verbal expressions and the idea of poverty are not only studied, but also explores how this same idea of poverty specializes in geographical representations and stigmatizations of the city.
