Resumen
Background. The identification of people has become one of the main focuses of forensic dentistry. In situations where identification is complex using conventional methods such as fingerprinting or dental records, rugoscopy can be considered as a method. This method consists of the identification through the palatal rugae, which are captured on gypsum models for their registration in the clinical history. Through CAD-CAM technology, a plaster model is scanned to obtain a virtual model that allows an analysis of its dental structures and palatal rugae in 2D and 3D, favoring the digital registration of information. Objective. Evaluate the effectiveness of CAD CAM technology for the storage of the rugogram and identification of a group of Floridablanca firefighters. Methodology. An observational study was conducted in 33 Floridablanca firefighters, who underwent an impression of the maxilla, to obtain a plaster model with the information of the palatal rugae. Subsequently, the identification of the rugae was carried out using the techniques Contac and CAD-CAM, performing the analysis using the Basauri classification. Results. The average age was 32 years ± 9.72. The most frequent ruga identified in the right palate 46,6 % and left 51,16% was sinuous in both techniques. In no participant was the rugae presented in the form of a circle. When comparing the rugograms obtained by the two techniques, a percentage of 100% was achieved among the researchers, achieving reliable identification. Conclusion. The CAD CAM technology provides a 3D scanned image of the palate in different inclinations. Therefore, the rugogram obtained with the CAM CAD image is useful for forensic identification by rugoscopy method.
