Introduction: Cognitive impairment reflects deficiency in the functioning of mental abilities such as memory, orientation, judgment and reasoning ability, where gait alterations may be a related factor. Objective: To establish the relationship between gait alterations and cognitive impairment in the PURE cohort residing in Santander 2020-2021.Methodology: Quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study in a rural and urban population with 269 participants (PURE Santander), the Mini-Cog scale was used to determine Cognitive Impairment. Bivariate analysis with Pearson's chi-square and Fisher's Exact chi-square tests for qualitative variables and Mann Whitney U test for numerical variables. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed and Odds Ratios were reported. Results: 69.89% (188) were female, with a median age of 64.8 (RI: 47.6-88.1). Prevalence of cognitive impairment in 28.25% (76), with alteration in the lift and advance test slightly impaired 33.88% (83) and affected 2.04% (5). It was identified that the participants with cognitive impairment presented higher prevalence of impairment in the lifting and advancement test in the bivariate analysis. In the multiple analysis, age OR=1.75 (95% CI: 1.17-2.62; p=0.006), HTAOR=1.83 (95% CI: 0.84-3.99; p=0.124) and lift and advance
15OR=1.56 (95% CI: 0.76-3.18; p=0.221).Conclusion: It was determined that a little more than a quarter of the participants of the cohort present cognitive impairment, a significant relationship was identified in the bivariate analysis, in the multiple analysis age was a risk factor for cognitive impairment, the lift and advance test was identified as a risk factor, but not statistically significant.
