"Material Silence is a set of poetic containers about love. They are translations of poems to tiles, which turn silences into material metaphorical compositions. The project was born to merge poetry and design, and to discover a method that allows poems to be used as opportunities to add value to a product. Poetry is the voice of silence and thanks to it we come out from an emotional closet. We express everything we cannot say through the words of someone else. The poem is a space for meditation and self-knowledge. As a designer, I consider crucial to know about yourself before knowing about others. I know myself through poems and that is the starting point of this project. In this way, this journey begins with a poetic anthology of my silences, where I discovered a silence of my own that I did not know, love. This silence referred to past relationships, loaded with words not said. Then, I categorized the loves of my life under four poetic universes: toxic love, platonic love, secret love, and absent love. Categories that I delimited and redefined thanks to the poem "Besos" by Gabriela Mistral and to the triangular theory of love by the psychologist Robert Sternberg. On the other hand, the main objective of a poem is to be tactile. Let it touch us whether it is tangible or intangible. Thus, when related to design, it leads us to the metaphorical power of the materials and their different dimensions of meaning. This led me to understand the real meaning of each material through the triangular theory of love. I summarize this process using a matrix of material meaning. This works as a tool that allows creating material metaphors according to each type of love and translates poetry into metaphorical containers of materials. Starting from the personal analysis of the silences that I identified within each poem and the material combination thrown by the matrix."--Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado.
