Industrial Archipelago: Productive Landscapes is a project that seeks to develop a landscape, urban and architectural approach in the industrial zone located in the lower basin of the Tunjuelo River, covering part of the localities of Ciudad Bolivar and Tunjuelito. This work is based on the understanding of the urban relations of one of the most important water infrastructures in Bogota with its built environment. Its importance is due to the fact that it is the largest waterbody that crosses the city, which receives the wastewater from about two-fifths of the city's population. Therefore, the lower basin of the river is considered pertinent for a priority urban renewal project. The selected site to work in this project gathers relevant urban infrastructures such as an industrial cluster and residential areas, necessary to include in the design to achieve an adequate renovation. Currently, these infrastructures present multiple urban disruptors including sanitary problems due to the high levels of contamination of the river and the industry, borders that fragment the city, and areas in high flood risk. These factors reduce the life quality of the surrounding population and weakens the ecological structure of the city. Thus, the approach in this project is to reformulate the urban and natural relations. The way in which the city relates to the river can be changed by connecting the natural system with the industry in a mutually beneficial agreement. The objective is to transform the industrial cluster into a socially and natural hyper cluster. This renewal proposal can be understood as an urban sponge, capable of absorbing a large amount of water, cleansing and integrating it with the city through a network of new public spaces and natural areas. Hence, it seeks to recover the balance between systems and improve the sociocultural and environmental problems in the sector.
